    Default Assignment - Manual Metering

    Canon 5D, 1/400 sec, f/5.0, ISO 200, evaluative metering
    300mm f/2.8 + 1.4xtc, focal length 420mm, fill flash, tripod

I took this shot last weekend with only a few seconds before the goldfinch flew off. I appreciate your comments and suggestions for improvement.

Hi Dana - Lovely yellows and nice sharp details, you have a good head angle and eye contact. Would lighten the eye just a tad and sharpen a tad a swell.

Background compliments the bird very well - would just run some NR and might crop some from the LHS.

Were did you take your meter reading from?

Dana, greetings from a fellow Perkins! I love the colors on the bird and the bg. Nice job with the manual metering.

Could you share the details on the flash? I don't see a catch light in the eye and was curious how the flash was set.

The crop seems a little odd to me. Nothing inherently wrong with the square aspect, but in this case it seems to want to be either a vertical or a horizontal. I think it is the leaves in the LLC, would love it if they were in the other corner!

    Please post more...

Very nice image Dana. Yellows don't look oversaturated. Was curious to know what you metered off of too and why you picked MM as the BG looks very uniform.

A lovely capture indeed, I would clone out the leaves at the bottom...I like the fine details and color rendition on your subject...looking forward to your next one...

I am reposting with the suggested changes. I metered off the bird with fill flash at -1/3.
Thank you all for the helpful comments!
