This was shot at the Outrigger - Kona on the Big Island. I used multiple filters in Photo Element, including the canvas to get the effect of a "Monet". Seemed to just come together.
Mark, I think this is very nicely done. I like the faint tiles in the sky,it gives it a pattern but it is not over done. I also like the composition. Two very small things-the tree trunk that is almost out of the frame on the right I would crop out,and the horizon line seems to go up on the left-probably from the effect but it does pull my eye. I really like what you did here it is interesting and different-Well done.
Nice effect and colours Mark. A very muted selection of colours which work well to give it a moody feel. I noticed the horizon too and put it through .75 CCW and it looked fine. Tried cloning out the trunk and thought it improved the comp. Just a few minor adjustments, your treament is really bring out the textures and tonalities in the rocks and the trees.
Thanks, I missed the tree trunk in the cut. :o Not like me, but sometimes...
I have posted a revision to the right border, removed the tree trunk and attempted to remove the high horizon, but it is not possible due to the layers involved and so I left it for now.
As for the horizon, yes it is a little high, but I used the full horizon to check level, through the trees. I don't know why water isn't level, but for some reason it moved up a little. It appears to be the pattern shape, as you noted, that adds to it. I blew it up and that could be the cause of some of the "exageration" of the line. However, I am not sure. Thanks for the comment though.
I also redid the border width, as I didn't like the thin one after posting it previously.
Thanks again, I may put another image up later when my 24 hours expires. I have a garden scene that I like as well.
the repost is great. i didnt even see the trunk on the right until the girls said something about it. the horizon i did see. i worked on it and did a little distortion control and it worked out nicely. i would repost, but it monkied up the frame.
the treatment is fantastic, mark. and the scene/composition works for me too!
