Yesterday I took the D3 and 600mm to the local bird sanctuary. When I got their the light it got overcast. I thought of packing up, but decided to stick it out and see what the D3 can do with the situation at hand. This was created at ISO 3200, wide open, Active D-lighting set at Normal. All comments welcome:)

To paraphrase a recent post in another thread you are rubbing it in.
I have to say that there is really no comparison beween this performance at ISO 3200 with that of the 1d MkIII and I have tried!
But Iam sure experience and great skill also add to image.
All I need now is a lottery win!
Beautiful photo by the way, stunning colour.
Have you tried out the camera with spotlight illumination?

Thanks for the comments gents:) Ken, I have found the MK III to be excellent at high ISO's, but at ISO 2000 and beyond the D3 is in a class of its own (IMO). No spotlight illumination yet, but hopefully soon when I will be in Sabi Sabi with clients. Dave this was taken at President Ridge. Well worth a visit, the herons are starting to build their nests. Let me know of you want to pop round.
A little more head turn in your direction and it would be beyond exceptional (ok I am nitpicking mate)! Though there is already wonderful action Chris and great performance even evident at low res as presented on web.
Great pose, details, BG and the open bill adds to it. Image quality is great considering the high ISO. I might blur the BG more to make it look smoother. Are you still considering going back to Canon? :)
