We were there two weeks ago and it was getting sparce, but as it was only our second visit there I can't say how it normally is. There were manybe 20 egrets there, about 10-15 herons and about 10 Anhingas. The Egrets were in plumage with the young, 3-4, getting ready to fly. The Herons were also in plumage and actively interacting on the island. The Anhinga young had grown rapidly from our visit about 2 weeks earlier.
I don't want to discourage you, but as it is a 3.5 hour drive from here, I don't know if we will do it again this year. Merritt is a lot closer and has more activity with the gators and space center to visit if we have a bad bird day.
Good luck though if you choose to venture there. You may want to call ahead to get a current status from the locals.
