This was a result of more experimentation with a remote setup in our backyard in Becket Massachusetts.

    Camera Info:
    Olympus E-3; ZD 40-150mm @ 113mm; ISO 400; 1/250 sec @ f8; tripod

    RAW Conversion:
Olympus Studio software; 6000K -1 tint; contrast 0; saturation 0; sharpening off; aRGB color space

    CS2 Info:
Slightly cropped; shadows adjustment; curves adjustment; slight noise reduction; pre-sharpened; resized; Nik output sharpening; converted to sRGB

Yep, those guys (and many other "black" birds) will go all sorts of rainbow colors on you because of the way the feathers refract the light.

One thing to look at is the slight sharpening halo that is most visible around the breast.

I am sorry I cannot tell you what species it is as I am from DownUnder, but I can tell you that I like the sheen and coloring from the light reflecting from the plumage. That is one funky bird I tell ya! I see some noise, in particularly under the tail in the dark areas but I love the comp and fore/backgrounds. they are nicely balanced. I would probably crop about 1/3 of the space from above. :)

The soft light really helped here to show the colors. I also like the angle and would crop some off the bottom and add canvas on the right to give the bird room to walk into.

Amazing colours captured in this, and agree with a bit more room on the right.
