We've recently had quite a few osprey feeding around our local dam. Caught this guy and wanted to offer up for thoughts. Fairly good size crop on this image. Thought I might take a little more off the sides, but I'm often told I'm too tight. Any thoughts?

    Hi Dave,
The high-key background compliments your subject quite well...I like the wing position and flight capture angle...you have fine, sharp details and the color rendition is very good...congrats...keep them coming...

Looks good Dave I'm fine with the crop, a bird thrashing that much needs room !!! I like it a lot you only need to find a way to get the bird closer !!!

Thanks for the thoughts and encouragement. Yes I'm saving $$$$$ to get closer :D Strange as it may seem, I've had good luck on the 50D with my older Tamron 1.4 converter auto focusing as long as there is good light. Not sure why that is. I've done it with many stationary subjects and now that I have the sidekick I may try it on BIF. The converter was not used for this shot. The 100-400 alone has done really well for locking on BIF, should I be surprised? I always hear how slow that lens is to focus. I haven't had much opportunity to compare to something else.

Dave, I like the 100-400 for BIF HH. But I don't feel you get the details that can be obtained from a prime lens on a tripod-but it is easier to lock on target HH I think.

I think you did well with this one-the pose is nice and I love the high-key BG!

Denise, That would be great. My wife shoots with me and she would also love to meet you. We also attend the Photoplus Expo in New York each year. It might be fun to also meet at some point up there and put together a mini report on new toys for the folks here.

I wish she would. I'll need to bolster up her confidence a bit more so she'll actually post. She does have some nice images. She just received an honorable mention award from the Ocean City Arts center for a black swan image. My son Michael has also posted here.
