    Exclamation Forum Etiquette (revised)

    Hi folks,

I have noticed many times that there is a long row of unanswered threads, even up to 7 at a time.
This means that members or contributors requesting critique did not take the time or effort to leave feedback on others, that wanted the same thing as they did.

If we all ask for critique only, who is going to do the critique? Moderators alone cannot cover the amount of new threads efficiently.

That is without even talking about the benefits of offering critiques yourselves. It benefits you more and it helps you more in the learning process to look at an image that is not ours and we are not emotionally attached to, and observe the good, the mediocre and the bad parts of it. Don't tell me you do not qualify to critique because we all do. If you have eyes, you can see. You may miss a few points that more educated eyes will pick up, but can certainly find elements that attract you or distract you. Say it, say it gently, and remember, that if you yo like to see a lot of meaningful replies in your thread, so would the others. If you don't have the time to leave replies, wait for a better time to post your image then.
A ratio of 5 replies per posted image is considered polite and standard.

Please, help us make you and BPN better!

If you feel you are not qualified to critique, do not miss this thread:

Fabs, thank you for posting this. I have been thinking about this issue for a while and I appreciate your thoughts here. While I don't consider my photos to be ready for posting in avian, I do post a lot in ETL and I visit this forum daily. I have noticed a lack of critiques on this one and think it's a shame because there are a lot of talented posters here who could supply some really good feedback.

I personally offer up a few crititques in ETL before I post something. It just seems like the right thing to do. The moderators and publishers here are the best, but we all only have so many hours in a day so I believe we should all try to give as well as receive. There is also that old adage about "the best way to learn is to teach"...

Personally I notice the some of the same people who post, yet never offer critique in return. I find it in good taste to leave a few critiques on other's images. I find it selfish and irritating to just post and expect critiques giving nothing in return. especially if you have been a member for a while.

Is it possible to have a post and comment number shown? On another forum they have that and I think it keeps people a little more accountable. And what you put in is what you get out. Low comment ratio posts usually will not get the amount of critique as others. I've noticed it can be quite a problem here, even by some accomplished photogs whose help would greatly be appreciated by all.

I know I was quite intimidated in regards to offering my opinion at first due to the high quality of work posted here but have started actively commenting more (since becoming a member) and hope I can contribute in a constructive manner.
