    Default Black-bellied Whistling Duck

    These guys are all over the place. To the point that they shove Wood Duck eggs out of the box and replace them with their own. This was shot about 45 miles southwest of Baton Rouge, Louisiana.

    Love the closest duck. If you could have gotten a few inches higher you would have had a more pleasing angle to the rear bird and a sweeter juxtaposition. Either way, cropping the bottom of the dock (not the duck gives the image a much cleaner look.

    The out of focus bird is a bit distracting in this case because the wood fence overlaps with him. Superb BG .

    Thanks for commenting. There are a lot of these guys at the site where I am working. I've had very few opportunities to shoot due to long hours worked. Hopefully I'll get a chance to shoot some in another day or two.

    Apparently the Whistling Ducks push the Wood Ducks eggs out of the nesting box and take them over. I would love to get a shot of a Wood Duck pair but judging from the "neighborhood" it's not looking good.

    Here's one that I took around the time that I shot this one.
