Here is another from awhile back. I consider myself pretty lucky to have got this BIF image, since it was before I got my 70-200VR lens and also when I knew next to nothing about ISO and EV. I took lots of pictures that day (the terns were very active), but most were failures. This image has been cropped quite a bit and PPed in Lightroom and Elements. Is it a keeper now or a reject? Can I do more to improve it?
Wendell .... this is not a bird in flight .... more like a bird in water :)
Harsh light and not really sharp around the face Probably would pass on this one. For keepers might want more room at the bottom for the virtual feet You did catch a good behavior .. great timing !!!
I too vote to keep it - for the behavior captured, the memory of the moment, and also to remind yourself of how far you've come. You do mention that it's been cropped quite a bit...if you've got it, I'd add room at the bottom as Al suggested. This is something I hope to capture this year when our terns return. Not easy!
You know why you would want to keep it? So after a couple of more years of bird photography practice you can look back and see what a difference the practice in the field made! :)
Of course it is a keeper - it is a memory! Frankly, the definition of keeper requires context. A BPN keeper is one thing - fine art excellence through painting with light; a personal keeper is what you like and want to look at in the future. I have no doubt that I am going to post many personal keepers for critique so that my personal keepers improve; occasionally I hope to also post what others on the Forum tell me is a BPN keeper.
