As one of the product designers...it will work well with a wimberley or ball-head. I find the the lower profile of the RRS BH-55 to be ideal. I came up with it to originally support my camera and long lens gear on our custom made vehicle support rail while traveling in Botswana. The strap system insures a secure and snug fit to vehicle door handles, tree limbs, fence posts, you name it.
Thanks for that, thats what I call straight from the horses mouth. I have allready emailed to find out about shipping etc.
I was also looking into the Markins M20, any comments?
I have had most of the heads, and the Markins is a fine piece of equipment. However, the lower profile, dual vert slots, large ball and release knob, and exacting tolerence of the RRS makes it my NUMBER ONE choice.
You are wise to also consider the excellent Markins M-20 ball head. There is an excellent discussion comparing the RRS BH-55 with the Markins M-20 under "The Sidekick" thread recently posted by Jay Gould in this Photography Gear forum. The discussion there may facilitate making your choice.
