This Burrowing Ground Owl was very curious. He kept peeking out of the burrow and eventually got up the nerve to come completely out. This was in Cape Coral tonight off Mohawk Blvd. This time I used my Sony a100 again but with the Sony 75-300 mm 4.5, f/5.6, 1/1250, +2.0 ev, ISO 400, 300mm, Fill flash with Better Beamer. C & C's welcomed
thanks for looking. John
Hi John,
I like the capture, I find that too much of the oof nest in the foreground is a bit distracting, see if this pano crop appeals to you; I also adjusted the saturation and contrast levels and ran noise reduction in the background and selective sharpened the eyes...
John if you take your time it is possible to crawl up and use a 200 lens..... they key is watching the owls and make sure they are comfortable. Also if you are not maxing the zoom should get away with no BB !!!
Here is the shot from the camera. Maybe I cropped too much. Maybe too much in the post processing. I still think it is too noisy for ISO 400. I am only about 15 feet away. I took about 30 minutes just inching my way to the sectioned off area. They were pretty comfortable with me there. So much so one of the adults came down off the perch and landed only 4 feet off to my right. Is the noise because of the flash? I wanted the faster shutter speed to try and get the sharpness.
Thanks,
John
the noise is probably from the large crop. will always creep in with big crops. best to compose the final image in the camera. will yield the best results everytime!! as far as the better beamer, it is not needed when that close to the subject. that is what al was referring to. i think!!
