    Default White Crowned Sparrow

Trying out my hand in finding bush birds with my new super tele and a crop camera :) . I was lucky to capture this fellow in the viewfinder.

    20D, 800 mm, ISO 200, F5.6, 1/400, -1 EC

Cloned out one distracting twig on the bottom left.

    All critique and comment welcome.

I like the atmosphere of this image. I don't mind we're looking at the bird from kind of behind because it shows the field marks of the bird better this way IMO. I think the head could be brighter though and I would sharpen the eye a bit. And I also would tone down the brighter area of the tree because I would not want to have it brighter than the bird in this kind of photo. You could, if you want to, also remove the small branch which is kind of pointing down at the bird.

    Good points by Desmond !!!

Main problem I see is mixed light .... seldom works You want to be all in sun/shade. Would also crop from the back. Do like seeing the back side, very attractive !!!

I like the pose and overall composition. The lighting has cast some unfortunate shadows that seem a tad distracting to me.
If you are concerned about the accuracy of the colors, then something has gone awry. The flanks and undertail coverts look very yellow in the image which isn't true for these guys. The flanks are usually a subtle brown. The body of the bird seems a little too far to the yellow side as well. Is this sunset or sunrise light?

    Good advise given,
I like the composition, I would suggest cropping a little from the right side of the frame, and opening up the eye just a tad and re-sharpen...the color rendition is good...looking forward to your next one...

Nice image -I love the LBJ's, particularly these guys. lots of good advice given. You've captured the most interesting attributes of these guys well, and you definately have his attention. I do agree with Gail regarding the colours though - they seem a little off.
