Well, as others have mentioned, this is not easy! Because of the OOTB category, the sheer variety of images is wonderful to view, hard to judge. Ultimately, I went on how it affected me, keeping the theme in mind.
1) Winner - Dave Woeller - radial engine. The detail, colors, effects and composition did it for me.
2) Harold Davis - Tombstone - 9.5 The monochrome treatment, fall leaves, canted tombstone. Very powerful.
3) Paul Wolf - Old Age - 9.45 - I found this a particularly thought provoking one
4) Anita Ray - 9.4 Zimmerman Farm - Having grown up in Iowa, lots of old farms, very bittersweet for me. Nice use of HDR
5) DMills - Weathered Window - 9.35 - Love the formal symmetry, colors, new (flowers) old (shutters)
6) Paul Wolf - Once Bright- 9.3 Wonderful post processing effect and feel
7) DMills - Little House on Prairie 9.2- although a straight shot, the look matched the theme well
8) DMills - Hot rod- 9.2 I admire the work this car represents, and the skill it took to capture it
9) Dave Woeller - Ghosts of Fort Delaware - 9.1 - nice composite, fit theme well
10) Lots of great images, each special in their own way.
I want to esp. thank Denise for guidance early on, and all the other moderators that contributed images as well.
I reviewed the images many times, and it is a true testament to them that I found something new and interesting in each even after repeated viewing!
