    Default THEME: Landscapes

I can't describe everything done here because it took 27 layers to do this. Some of the techniques:

    • a mottled gold overlay to warm the greens
    • "paint with light," a blank layer in color dodge mode: fill with black, paint very lightly with white to enhance colors
    • a B&W adjustment layer applied selectively at 25% layer opacity to tone down colors in some places
    • paint on a blank layer in multiply mode to darken the roof of the mill
    • paint on a blank layer in soft light mode to tone the mill
    • several hue/sat adjustment layers to selectively darken parts of the image
    • photo filter (warming) selectively applied to the mill
    • selective color adjustment applied only to the mill

Absolutely beautiful! The color tones are perfect!! I think the only thing I would do is evict the thing at the R of the pond that is on the edge -just because I don't know what it is, and take a sliver off the bottom. David, your work with adjusting colors and tones is just spot on!!!

You have really made it 3D David and brought it back to life. Great PP skills. Love the greens in the trees. I might lighten up the green of the grass at the front as the dark seems to stop my eye. Agree with Denise about a bit off the bottom. I also wonder what it would look like with the original colour of the pond. Wish I had your PS skills:) Good work!

Hey David, Very lovely image. Nice supplying all the detailed steps you took to get the final result and posting the original. I also agree with the area on lower rt but a small nit. An image to be proud of! Well done!

david, this is taking to beyond the next level. is it really out of the box? now doubt the processing is something to be envious of. for me anyway. you made it look like a thomas kinkade painting.

David, Scott Kelby has a book: 7-Point System where he takes a photo and processes it from beginning to end for teaching purposes.

The detailed step by step processes you went through from original to final image (27 layers) would make a wonderful teaching tool.

Fantastic PP technical skills - and the original image isn't too shabby either! You do have to start with the right image to create the fine art you created as an end result.

Lovely; you have set the PS standard I can only dream of achieving.

    Cheers, Jay

Thanks to all for the kind words and useful suggestions. I removed the "whatsit" on the right edge of the water and trimmed some off the bottom. I don think these steps improve the image.

If I can find time, maybe I can put together a step-by-step of this image, or some such, as a little tutorial. I have Camtasia Studio but haven't learned enough about it yet to produce a decent video. That would probably be more helpful than static pictures and descriptions.

You know David I learn so much from each of your posts-I just did a filter layer in post process and remembered you had told me to dbl click on the layer and a box would come up -then move the bottom slider over till branches were no longer colored-well it worked beautifully!!! And I still use your tip with the shift key on my brushes to create a straight line. So for all your help so far Thankyou!!

For us newbies, and the oldies but goodies suffering a "Senior Moment" :o, are all of these PP tips posted somewhere.

It would be wonderful it there was an ongoing PP Tips &Tactics document that could be added to in some fashion.

another useful tip I've found is to check out all the posts by David found on his contact page and go thru them for any useful information. Hope this helps.

David and Denise - thank you both. I only made the request at 4am (Brisbane, Australia) and already you both have responded. Thank you. Jay
