The top of sailgboat masts make favorite perches for the belted Kingfisher. Spiders appear to like them too. Edmonds Waterfront Nov. 13, 2007.

What a cute little fellow he is! And I'm amazed at how well the spider photographed! Neato! Some hot spots in the whites....and I'd do NR on the sky. Thanks for sharing!

It's the first time that I've seen a "sailing Kingfisher". Rather interesting setting......and the spider is the perfect touch. I agree with Anita about the noise in the BG and the hot spots.

Thanks very much Anita and Lana for your comments and suggestions. I think I need a better monitor - I don't see the hot spots, but I will work on the noise issue - seems like my perennial problem :)

Very nice. Funny, but I was looking for the spider in the bill of the bird ;)

As for what looks hot and what doesn't, it could be a matter of monitor brightness. One way to check is to open up a curves layer and turn on the option to show clipping. Take a peek at at each end of the spectrum.
