A late day sunbeam made its way through the trees to highlight where this owl was perched. 40D, 400DO + 2xTC, f9, 1/125s, ISO 1600, tripod, MLU, cable release, full frame.

Eye contact aside, I thing the framing of the tree branch is extremely effective and the light is sweet. Spotlight effect a great touch!

Superb use of spotlight, and Fabs has summed it up with regards to the framing of the owl. I really like this. Congrats Steve.

Wow, I love this one Steve. I do not care about the lack of eye contact because the bird is resting and it seems that he feels a lot of confort. The spot, warm, light and the fantastic pine framing are the strongest points in this excelent image. Very good job

Pretty neat! I love the late-day feel to it. I'm with Juan in regards to the eyes...goes well with said late-day feel. I only wish the pupil on the right eye (our left) was as visible as the other one. I also could do without the branch reaching out and touching the owl's head. Still awesome, I love it!!

Eye contact doesn't make or break an image in my opinion.

Great light, nice comp. Excellent shot.
