    Default Good and Light Tripod

Hey Guys! I've been snooping around and trying to pick you a good tripod for some long Hikes I'll be doing (Halfdome, CloudsRest, etc..) and have pretty much decided that a good Gitzo is what I want. Having said that...I my current gear is: Nikon D300 & a Tokina 12-24/4 while using a Giottos 1302 ballhead. I'm focusing on landscapes so I'm not worrying about mounting a Super-Tele right now.

I have been eyeing the Gitzo GT0531 Mountaineer

    Gitzo GT-1930 Basalt

And last but not least the Gitzo GT-0932 Basalt

Will one of these be adequate for the situations that I will be in? Which one would you recommend? Other recommendations perhaps? Thank you.

Hi Brian Would go with the three section even if it folds a little longer. To me they seem more stable. btw sure wish you had store to check them out in person ... no substitute for feel !!!

Thanks Alfred, does the Basalt work well or is there a big difference between it and the CF?

I have the GT-1930 and use it with my D300 with a variety of lenses, including the 12-24. It is certainly more than adequate for that. Have no experience with that head though

Brian Head wise would look into the RSS BH-40 ... a thing of beauty.

A friend of mine has a Feisol tripod. He purchased it under recommendation of Maxis. It is very very nice- light, and beautifully built. Can't remember what the model was.

Maxis posted he has a Feisol 3471 I took a look at the site and I am leaning towards the CT-3342. I was looking at their CB-50D head when I stumbled on the RRS BH-40 recommendation..... I think I need a second job :(
