    Default Nesting Eagles

Boy, I would love to get closer but do not want to scare these eagles of their nest. They have been here a couple weeks, and twice a day they switch. They are only at the nest and visible for a few seconds but did manage to get a picture.

I was shooting a 1D mark III, Canon 300 2.8 IS, 1.4x ISO 640, 1/600th @ 9.0 on a Gitzo Tripod and Weatherby Gimbal Head using cable release.

This is the center crop, they are just so far away.

I do have the 1Ds mark III, and a 2X converter wonder if that would not be better, giving me more pixels.
any thoughts on how to get a better image.

On a side note, this is truly amazing to watch in the wild, what fantastic birds.

Hi - definetly need to get closer or use a longer lens - beg steal or borrow a 600mm and a 2X converter and you will be in the ball park.
As presnted its a bit hard to tell whats happening and you can only just make out the birds.

    Hope to see more :)

I know, it kills me. These are on private property where I have permission to be, problem is the State Game Department posted signs all over. "Authorized Personal Beyond This Point" I am pushing it where I am, walk in where I can not see the signs.

Sad thing is I would gladly take a blind and set it up in an area not to bother them, but guess they figure if they don't stop people, will have everyone and their brother down there taking cell phone pics.

They already have people stopping with cell phones out at the road, which is about 300 yards farther than I was.

    Hi Denny,
This would be a fantastic capture, but closer, see if you can rent a long lens for a day or two...

I respect your love and consideration for your subject. Many photographers sometimes just forget about that.

As many had suggested a 600 mm with a TC will be ideal.

    Regards
