    ;)Nikon D200 . Lens 600 F/4D. F stop 8 . Shutter 1/500 sec. Mode: aperture priority
Exp Comp -1/3 EV. Metering:center wgt . ISO: 320 . Flash: none Place: Davis CA. Condition: Morning sun
I notice on the preview there is a halo of artifact around the owl that is not present on the final outcome from Nikon Capture NX 2 processing. I wonder if was due to additional sharping done in PS ( which was advised for posting images) There is also significant change in the color and saturation between this image and the final from NX2. Comments welcome. Please advise on how to avoid the artifact and also give advice on best way to deal w foreground.. Thanks Ray;)

HI Ray - love that stare and those eyes. Exposure looks good and the BG compliments the bird nicely.

Halo's are generally from over sharpening - have a look in the educational resources forum - there is a article in there with Arties sharepning recomendations.

What is the foreground Dirt??? It is a little distracting - I would consider a vertical crop doing so would minimise the OOF foreground area and might present better.

Perhaps it's a little oversharpened, but it presents with nice detail. I'd agree with the vertical crop to minimize the foreground.

    Hi Ray

For the color differences check your working space for posting? Should convert to sRGB and will look the same.

Did you do some work to the foreground dirt? Just oof dirt should look fine and not distracting, I sort of like the diagonal line with the bird standing at attention !!! Neat !!

    Hi Ray,
I like your composition, love the penetrating eyes...the background is very pleasing, thus complimenting your subject quite well...good show...
