Default American Oystercatcher on the Run

This is another image I made shortly after sunrise yesterday morning. The first image is saved as sRGB which results in a clipped red channel. The second one is saved as Adobe RGB and the histogram looks fine. I didn't want to desaturate because it looked quite flat and was not what I remembered.

    1D3, 500f4, 1.4x, 1/500s, f/7.1, EC +0.33, ISO 800, no noise reduction, this is what I really like about the 1D3

    Axel:

Lovely light, foot up pose, and the wave on the beach is very nice.

The light looks like it was coming in over your left shoulder, so the chest and neck area are in shade, but the eye and bill caught the light beautifully.

Thanks for posting the redo. I am really watching for the jpeg burned pixel syndrome now too.

I can't say for certain, but I get the impression of a faint sharpening halo above the top of the birds head. I can only see it if I move around.

You have really been nailing these oyster catchers!

That's one good looking bird Axel. I think the HA is almost perfect, and I wish the light was more from over your shoulder. Really a nice low angle for my liking buddy. :)

Thanks, Randy! In this case the histogram changes quite a bit when you save the image as sRGB.

I don't know what I like better.....the high stepping bird or the light. I really like that touch of surf coming in from the side. Well done......as always.

I like how the lines of the waves correspond to the same directional movement of the O.C. I like the contrast and color better in the sRGB (maybe dial back the orange a bit) and I'd run NR on the BG. Thanks for posting both versions, it provides a good visual learning experience for all.

interesting.....notice how the red channel "combs" in the sRGB conversion.
That's the gaps left from the wider gamut.

either way, I sure like the pose and the bit of surf

BTW, looks alike in color managed firefox and #2 looks less sat with color management disabled(as it should)

Very nice, buttery BG and excellent reds on the bird.
The RGB re-post lost some vibrance (on my monitor) though.

Very beautiful, Axel, I prefer the second one, the first one is too vibrant and looses detail in the bill due to the hot reds.

Gorgeous lighting here Axel, I like the raised foot too.

I really like the comp on this. The "wall" of water threatening to surround and overtake him, together with his running pose, make this one for me. The light's not to bad either.

Like the second one too Axel. The colours look truer to me. Well exposed. Thanks for showing the different colour spaces.

Although looking on my laptop at work, I prefer the first post, as it certainly looks warmer to me, and I dont feel you have lost detail in the beak. I like the rolling in of the wave, with the raised foot to show movement. Congrats on an outstanding image.
