    Default Tiger Mating

It is tough to see and photograph tiger mating as it happens in dense forest. Was fortunate to photograph this one.

Tigers live solitary lives and are strictly territorial animals. During the mating period the male and female remain close by and mate in frequent intervals. The mating time lasts not even a minute, from mounting to dismounting I have noted from 30 to 40 seconds. This time from mounting to disengaging and then the female rolling on her back, was timed at 47 seconds.

Sharing this image. Technically, not one of my best. I don't like the steep angle. This image was made just before the female growls and turns its head to take a swipe at the male with her right fore paw. And the male was ready to move back evade.

Canon EOS 1D Mark II, Canon EF 28-135 f3.5-5.6 IS, ISO 100, f5.6, 1/80 sec, full frame.

    Look forward to your comments.

    Cheers,

Well that is something you do not see everday, was it taken from an Elephant?
I would think it almost impossible to get lower in order to pick up some more of their faces, it is a lot easier with Lions in Africa.

    Ken,
It was taken from an elephant back. The tigers were on a ditch at the base of a hill. Hence this steep angle.

Great behavioral image.. As you mentioned the angle is steep. Would have like a bit of eye contact or even to see the eyes. Fortunate to see this and good to have it in your files..

I'd want to be on the elephant and not on the ground for this shot! Great behavioral image.
