Taken at the Appalacian Museum in Tennessee. They wander around the place. I couldn't get him to spread the tailfeathers, but thought this sideview was a bit of a consolation. Did a bit of color sats and selective sharpening.
I would agree with Axel. The first thing I saw was the chain cutting through its head. Had you been able to shoot a little to the right and have the chain above and clear of the head it would have been better.
The location isn't good either. With all the "junk" in the background. You don't give the tech info, so I'm unsure if it could have been blurred out more, or totally with a wide open setting. Another thing you could try is to make a panarama out of it. Crop about as much above the bird's head and is below its body at the legs. That might remove the bulk of the distractive background for you.
For postion, I think it helps to get things into or out of the image. The 1/2 cart to the right would be nice if it weren't there, or the angle were changed to eliminate it. While the rest is the backdrop, the cart appears to be an after thought by not showing it.
The colors are good and bright. Nice image, but could use a cleaning of the background.
Now if the bird would have cooperated and flown to the clear background with 100 yards of open space or wooded area behind it... ; > ) Dang birds just don't get the point of our shooting sometimes.
It is a beautiful bird with great colors in our image. However the chain is a problem. Please take this as a learning process. It took all of us a while to look at everything we can in the view finder and I, for one, still miss important things sometimes. - and probably always will ;)
Thanks for the comments. And yes....dang bird. I was lucky just to get him still for a moment. Re the background, it is an appalachia museum and the whole place is full of such stuff. Quite honestly, I didn't see the chain until I got home. As you say, we have to learn to look for so many things at once! A good learning experience, yes, but I was pleased to have gotten a fairly decent sharp photo at least of the bird. They are beautiful.
