    Default Another osprey...

There's something about the majesty and power of birds-of-prey and my favorites are eagles, osprey and red-tail hawks so that's usually what you'll see from me here. I went to a new (for me) place yesterday and shot for about 4 hours. This was one of my better efforts. Image was made with a 40D and a 100-400; ISO 400; 1/1600 @ f5.6. Image has been cropped to eliminate extraneous background and PP'd in BreezeBrowser and CS2. As always, I look forward to your comments

Hi Chris - sounds like you had fun... Bird doesnt pop enough from the BG for my tastes, like the eye contact.
You might tone down the white on the head a little appears a little bright on my screen.

Also keep in mnd your sun angle and the direction of the wind as they will always land into the wind - knowing this will help you pick the best location to shoot from.

    Keep em coming :)

    Hi Chris,
I would have liked to have seen the bird bigger in frame...You do have a good head angle and clear eye...I recommend on lightening the eye and selective sharpen it to bring it out more, also to improve the composition, I suggest a pano crop, to bring the bird closer in...good show, looking forward to your next one...

lance nailed the critique. one thing i might add is the fact that you have water where you were. if you can get the bird over water, with the sun AND wind behind you, and some softer light, that would be the ideal situation.....the lake or water acts as a huge reflector and lights the underbelly of the bird. just something else to keep in mind. cant wait to see some redtailed hawk pics!!!

Thanks for all your comments! I would have loved to have photographed the birds over water but that option wasn't available at this location.
