Default Lined-up for landing - Snowy Egret.

Estero Lagoon, February. This one is all about the lines as I think they make for an interesting image. The vertical reflections are created by condos near the lagoon. I'm OK with the overlap of bill and wing as otherwise the bill may have been somewhat lost in the dark BG. In a perfect world the near wing would be opened-up a little more, but alas I was not so lucky this time - by I do like the overall results.

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f7.1, ISO 640, +0.3, natural light, handheld.

    Daniel:

Very interesting. Looks like he is landing on galvanized tin roofing with a coating of black ice. Nice technicals, like the crop, position in frame and head angle. I am good with the bill/wing merge, since the bill is clearly visible, unlike it would be on a darker bird.

I can't quite make up my mind re: the vertical light streaks. I find it vaguely disconcerting, as if you are shooting through tall reeds. I know that the reflections are behind the bird, but my brain keeps seeing it otherwise.

Thanks for posting. I will look at it again re: the vertical streaks

No tell you didn't do those lines ;)

Amazing in their symmetry and a great backdrop for the Snowy. Exposure on the money and great feet.

Nice shot. I like the colors of the eliments of the image. I agree with you on the beak, I've lost them many times by having them out there in the background. I love the horizontal lines.

    Good image.

Excellent exposure on the egret, and pin sharp too. The lines on the water sure help you to rotate your image correctly. LOL. Great capture Daniel.

I agree with your self critic but we can´t have all things all the time ;-) Excelent exposure job and love that calm water with the striped pattern of waves.
