    Brown-headed Cowbird at Gilbert Water Ranch (Gilbert, Arizona)

    This cowbird was puffing up and doing his spring-singing.
    1/800 at f11 and ISO 400
    Bigma at 500mm
    Canon 40D

    Hi Scott - like the pose and the head angle is good, can see some noise present - possibly due to the use of shadow/highlight tool in post processing?? Soft light is really the key with black birds.

    Would clone out the branches on the LHS.

    Great re post Just add some room at the bottom !!! Love those feathers and gorgeous bird !!!! btw are these guys the ones that lay eggs in other birds nests?

    These cowbirds do not make nests but lay their eggs in other birds nests. Often the cowbird chicks are the the first hatched and are fed by the host bird. Interesting neough not all host birds accept the cowbird eggs.

    Hi Scott, Nice shot and Lance's repost makes it even better. All it needs now is a little more room at the bottom and some noise reduction and you'll be set!
