The weathered remnant of a huge tree was placed in the foreground of a sunset. I did very little to the image other than creating the composite followed by usual tweaking, sharpening, etc. The huge stump already had the shape of what appeared to me to be an old man. It even had that golden colored feature right where an eye should be, and the small bunch of spider web appeared as a tear. For me, this represents an old man in the sunset of his life.

wholey smokes, paul. this is one strong image. if you were to tone down the whites in the stump, it might even be a little better. big congrats on this one. really evokes some emotion here.

I like the depth you have in the image Paul. Might take a bit from the top too and a maybe a soft eraser to smooth the edges of the stump. Does look like a mythical type of creature to me.

Well composed and executed Paul...I like the use of the bold tones and hues of reds and orange, contrasting against the black stup...that by the way looks like a dragon to me , looking into the oriental red dawn of time...:D:cool:

Very dramatic! Really like how you can see detail in the stump. Love the color of the sun as well.

Thanks so much to everyone's comments. I've taken some of the suggestions, here's the latest attempt. I tried softening the edges a bit, cropped some off the top and toned down the whites in the stump. Better?

    Thanks, again!
