    Default Robin in flight

    Hi all,

I captured this image today in the back garden. I was attracted by the clouds and blue sky when I woke up this morning and decided to set about capturing this Robin that has been frequenting the garden recently.

    Canon1DMk3, f14, 1/2000, 24-70mm.

    C&C welcome.

    Thanks

    Austin

Very cool capture. I like the wing position, eye contact and BG. I would remove one of the catchlights and probably the branch, too.

    Mission accomplished!

It's interesting that even at 1/2000 that there is still wing blur, which I do, by the way, think adds appeal to the image.

In addition to the branch and one of the catch lights, I'd also remove the tree or bush tops in the lower left, and perhaps even out that dark cloud bump at lower right.

    Overall, nice image!

Wow, f14 and you still got 1/2000s. What ISO did you use?

Very colorful bird and the sky! Like the pose, too. I would agree to removing the branch and the tree top in the lower left hand corner, too.

Excellent capture showing full wingspread. I would leave the perch as is.

This is simply incredible. I would not do a thing except to remove the second catchlight. Excellent work!

I agree with Maxis. I kinda like the branch in the shot, and I like the slight wing blur. Overall, it has a surreal quality to it...very very nice!

Well done, Austin. Love the light and sharpness but especially the wings. I don't mind the perch but would tone down the bright tip a little.

    Autstin:

A fine shot. Just that morning, I sat out to try and catch some of the songbirds on my deck, as they fly to the feeder. Not an easy task. I am amazed at the lens used, as the camera had to be within a few feet of the bird.
Were you setting out in the garden, or using a remote to trigger it? Do tell, as I would love to improve my technique.

    Cheers

    Randy

Our robins are very dull compared to this beauty!

    Hi all,

Thanks for the feedback. To answer the questions I needed ISO1000 to get enough shutter speed and it was set up on a tripod with a cable release. This bird is almost tame and follows me round the garden some days.

    Thanks for your interest.

    Austin
