A flock of about 150 Bohemian Waxwings were passing through on the north side of Montreal Island. They drove me crazy, flitting in and out of the trees - this was the one clear shot that I got. I am taken with the angle, but looking forward to hear what others think. Canon 40D; 100 - 400 handheld; f5.6; 1/200 s. Thanks!
Hi James - Gorgeous bird - I like the over the shoulder look back and your exposure looks pretty good. The head area is not as sharp as the tail area indicating that your point of focus was not on the head area and your F5.6 did not have enough DOF to render the head as sharp.
I would sharpen the head area - lighten the eye with some levels work and add some sharpening - not much you could do about the BG.
Hi James,
I like the capture and the head turn pose. Agree with Mr. Peters on the techs...It looks that the bird had one too many passes of noise reduction, because you are missing details in the feathers from the head and neck area...
Lovely colours on your bird James. Don't mind the branches too much. Sometimes it is nearlt impossible to get a cleans shot with these small birds. Looks like your focus was further down on the bird. Need to have the eye in focus as it is usually the first thing the viewer locks into. Looking forward to more!
james, you captured a beautiful bird. would try moving it to a corner on the left side. will present better in that composition. the bg is a little busy. maybe some clean up work would make it a little better. keep em coming!!
This is were they live James !!! Would crop some from the left and bottom. You did very well avoiding merges with little branches !!! ... btw the point of focus its right on the base of the tail !!!! Good luck with the next batch of these guys !!!
