    Default Bald Eagle

During the winter months, Eagles on the Upper Mississippi seek open water for fish - dead or alive. This image was taken at Colville Park in Red Wing this past Sunday. There were between 30-40 Bald Eagles in the vicinity but action was fairly slow. The colder the temp, the more active the birds. This bird was coming in to look over a dead fish near shore. the sun was at 90 degrees to my left and the sky was hazy. So, bright hazy sky and a subject with a white head and a dark body. I did not use exposure comp for this image but tried it later in the afternoon - it didn't seem to help much.

This image is slightly cropped, brightened and sharpened a bit. The eye is slightly OOF and I couldn't seem to improve focus.

    Camera: new Canon 40D
    Lens: Canon 300mm f/4 + 1.4 EX (480mm)
    ISO 200
    Shutter: 1/1000
    Exposure: f/8
    No flash
    Hand-held

Great pose but this image is underexposed. The BG looks noisy as well. Would like to have seen this in the Sun! :)

Roger for these type images you will find a compensation of +1 and more to be the way to go I will probably blow out the bg but the bird will look fine A danger is the top of the head Worth trying out

When photographing birds from the bottom remember the wings are in the shade needing the extra exp Love the pose Would crop some !!!

I like the pose in this one. Underexposure has been mentioned. I might crop a bit off the top.
