    Default Assignment: SOC_Great-tailed Grackle

I wasn't sure the rules so I chose an image that filled the frame and that I didn't have to photoshop or crop any.
It can stand a little unsharp mask and maybe some levels adjustment but this is how it came right from the camera.

    Canon 40D, 100-400 L IS, Hand held.
F/5.6, ISO 100, 1/640 ss, @ 400 mm, No flash, Center weighted average

    C & C Appreciated.

Hi Sharna, haven't seen you around for ages. How are you?? Looks sharp with a super sharp eye too. Did well with the exposure but fill flash would have helped with the darks I think. I would crop a little from the top (Getting closer would have helped, but I see you are maxed out at 400) and the main thing that would have helped you here is softer light from behind you. Hope to see more posts!

Hi Sharna Might want to check histogram The image looks under Also is best to line up the sun behind you unless you use fill flash Great seeing the out of camera images, they are helpful !!!

When you process this image there will some noise cropping up from opening shadows and you were trying hard to avoid noise. Will look better is you nail the exp and shoot at 400 !!!

Thanks Jackie! Yes it's been a while. I have been recovering from my back surgery well.

Thank you Al. I always appreciate your comments too. I learn so much from you just seeing your work and reading your responses to other images. Thanks bunches.

    Hi Sharna,
I do like the composition, it is a tad under exposed, good advise given by Mr. Forns...looking forward to your next one...and it's good seeing you back...:)

Hi Sharna - welcome back - the shadows are the main issue here - caused as AL mentions by not having the sun lined up behind you - yes you can open them in P.S. but it will introduce noise - one of the major tings to try and get right in camera as fixing after the event is limited.

    Keep em coming :)
