I love finding wildflowers!. Photographing them is a bit of a challenge as they are so small and I cannot move them from their natural setting, and I must be careful not to damage any other flowers in the process.

Nikon D300, 105mm macro, f20, 1/100, ISO 320, aperture priority, pattern metering, tripod, no flash, unknown WB. Post processing: Basic adjustments in Elements 7 and PS7.

Your bloodroot is up already, ours is still a couple weeks away. Nice comp, details, and BG.

    Hi Anita,
This is one beautiful lady. I like the placement in frame and the fine details in the petals...well done...

And now for something totally different...

I just had to see what it would look like on an all black BG. I also bumped the whites just a tad in levels.

Thank you all for your comments.

Jules, how did you bump up the whites without blowing them out? Your black BG is less distracting, and I like the bumped up whites.

Anita, I either opened a levels adjustment and hit "auto" or I grabbed the white eye dropper on the levels screen and touched it to the whites...can't remember which. Both are great, easy ways to make sure the whites are really "white."

The black background is nice (and everyone knows that I like black backgrounds) but so is your original almost marbled-looking background. Nice image.

Is this Bloodroot from this Spring? I have seen any yet around here.
