I was at Key Biscayne's South Beach and this little guy was having a lot of activity around us giving me a chance to take this picture that I just love because of the shape of the wings. The only thing that I have done is some cropping. I know that I have to work a lot with this image, I would appreciate if you give me suggestions and guidance.
Thanks in advance!
Welcome, and I agree with you about the lovely wing shape. I also like the position at about 1/3 of the frame, and it looks nice and sharp. You did a good job in exposing the underneath details.
Generally, it is stronger with the sun/light from behind you (and lighting the face), rather than above/behind the bird. It is difficult with flying birds. It is also stronger if the bird was flying toward you, rather than away from you. You can read most of that with the HAP (head angle police). It gives a more intimate image with contact to the viewer. Most of all this just takes a little bit of practice.
Hi Lady Mirenchu,
A big warm welcome to the BPN family...:) I agree with Brian on his fine assessment of you fabulous image...I like the composition image and capture...you did very well with the under wing details. I like the angle of capture and the left banking wing position. Ideally, it is best to capture your subject as he is flying toward you, not flying away. I would recommend to start tracking him as he begins to fly in your direction, and wait for the proper time to squeeze the shutter...the placement of your subject in frame is very good...the baby blue sky with the soft puffy clouds compliments your subject quite well...I recommend that you open up the mid-tones just slightly to get a little more details from the under wings...also boost the saturation and contrast levels just slightly to make your bird stand out...I like the clear eye...would also selective sharpen it just a tad, and lighten it up ever so slightly...you did very well...congratulations...proud of you...:) Looking forward to your next capture...and once again welcome to the family...:D:cool:
Great points by Brian !! Will repost with a couple of adjustments. Set the white/black point, lighten overall a touch, worked on the eye lightening then darkening the pupil finally a small saturation adjustment oh after lightening added a little neutral to the black in selective color.
You made a sharp image, fairly well exposed jut a little underexposed ... remember you are photographing the shaded side of the bird. Would like to see the bird coming to you rather than going away and seeing more wing surface is always good !!! Did a great job Looking forward to the next one !!!
