    Default American White Pelican.

Taken during Artie's IPT in Feb. We were about getting ready to leave the area when two of these pelicans flew in. Most of the group didn't hang around, but since I had zero images of this species in my files I had to stay a few minutes more. Taken while lying flat on the dock with my face hovering above the water, chin hanging lower than the floor of the dock. I'm glad I did hang around as this turned out to be my only opportunity with this species!

    Canon 40D + 100-400L @400mm, aperture priority, evaluative metering, 1/1600s., f/7.1, ISO 400, -0.7 EC, natural light, handheld.

    Daniel:

I think you did very well with this fellow. I took a number of pictures of that pair as well, when they joined the party late, but didn't get as low as you, and my images suffer in comparison for it.

This guy is sharp, good exposure control of the whites, head angle nice, and I like the framing. Well done.

Lovely light, pose, comp, BG/ambient, exposure, and colors! A bit more NR to the BG might help, still, great, congratulations!

Nice job on the whites. You captured a nice look from him and the color looks good.

I love the dof in the image Daniel, I would not change anything. HA is perfect, light is perfect what else could you ask for? Congrats!

Great pose, exposure, and sharpness Daniel. Like the low angle too.

Excellent exposure Daniel, pin sharp, with stunning light. You have also brought out the colours nicely. Congrats on a super image.
