Green Heron at Gilbert Water Ranch (Gilbert, Arizona) -- 04-08-2009

I was sitting at the edge of a pond shooting dowitchers when this heron landed right at my feet. The only chanes I made was to convert to JPEG and resize for the web.

Nice capture, good color and light,
The only thing that bothers me is the angle.
With this bird you could have kneeled down and got
it at low angle. Most likely not an option to
go flat in the mud this time, right? :D

    Cheers, Ilija

    Hi Scott,
Welcome to the BPN family...:) I like the composition, it is a bit under exposed, you would need to adjust the mid-tones..The capture angle is a little steep, for these, it presents best when you photograph them low on the ground...good show...looking forward to your next one...

    Hi Scott,

Nice bird for sure. Angle is a little too "human" for most of us I think, but you'll find that out in no time. :) Welldone capitalizing on the moment and the opportunity. Keep 'em coming. :)

...not an option ... something wrong with the mud :D

Same lens and does look sharper than the one Harold posted .. must have had some motion blur. Going lower would have made a difference !

I was sitting at pond edge so that would be lower than kneeling -- but the heron was still below me. No mud involved just a bit of a drop between me and the bird. Still was too good to pass up as these guys can be good at hiding in the weeds. Thought I would have a bigger problem with the light. By ten o'clock the sun is very very bright as summer approaches in Arizona.
