Female Brown Pelican with One Day Old Chick - S.W Florida

    Hello,

Spent Sunday out in the water as the weather is warming up. I came across this Brown Pelican nest with 3 chicks. This chick is eating a fish. I understand this looks tight on top but I wanted to focus more on the chick.

This is the first time I witness Brown Pelican Chicks this young, by the looks of it, I believe this is a one day old chick. I'll be monitoring this nest over the next couple of months and hopefully I'll be able to get more images.

    Hope you like it.

    Canon 40D, 500mm L @ f/8, 1/500 sec, ISO 400, Manual Exposure, Full Frame.

    Thanks!

    Hey Maxis,
I love the fact that the framing is so tight as for me it accentuates the situation in which this tiny chick will spend its early days at least. Wish that we could see mother's bill clearly and there was not a little stick across the chicks neck, but hey, I am not against including those as they were right there and the image is still conveying the message it is intended to. A big congrats! :)

Maxis, I love the teeny tiny chick. What a cutie! Nice perspective on this pair. I am not as enthusiastic about the tight framing. I'd rather see either a little more room all around or perhaps tighter on the chick. The leaves over the parent's bill are unfortunate. Looking forward to seeing more images as the chick grows. I love the stage where they look chalky white.

Your comp works well, with the pelicans beak leading down to the chick. What a tiny little guy, and glad to see him eating. This is pin sharp, with stunning light. Congrats on a great image Maxis.

I love the scene and light and detail, poses are nice and the chick is very cute :) Althought I like the comp, IMHO the BG is too bussy, but it still works goood enought! Congratulations Maxis!

The details in the plumage are outstanding, so wish for a cleaner view of the chick and more room at the top. Look forward to more...
