couple of things that stick out to me at first are: go at this as a vertical. and use some flash fill on the bird. will help if the sun angle isnt exactly right, will fill in the shadows a bit. love the soft out of focus bg!

Lovely image José. The bird is a bit dark, but the white flowers would present a problem with opening up the exposure. Really love the IQ of that Nikon.

    I can't post one until 10:43pm... :o;)

Great example of contrast !!! Exposure is right on the money ...any more and you blow the whites. Maybe some flash fill would help the bird but again might affect the whites !!!

Solution for this one ... softer light !!

Hi Jose, I really like the soft BG contrasting with the sharp, white flowers and while the flower stalk says go vertical, I'm not sure it would be worth losing that beautiful BG...

Hi Jose - agree with the comments above - would probably have shot vertical. Nice work :)

Ok, I will explain a little the image. I was standing in the middle of a lot of tajinastes (the plant the bird is on). In this situation, I have to be ready for any landing or take off in 360 degrees angle (notice the changing light situation). This scenes are very fast, and what I was aiming to catch was a landing or take off, so my setup was speed mode at 1/1250 with auto iso till 1600. In this conditions, I am not able to think about specific exposures or orientations.
What I am thinking of , is if it sholud be beter to select a specific angle, adjust my setup, and wait till I'm lucky......

I think a very low flash burst would have helped, it appears just a little dark in the darks, but I am positive that a nice crop and thoughtful post processing can make this super!

YES!!! that will put you at the optimum everything! i think you will actually have more keepers that way. fewer images, but more keepers. you have been there several times so you know the habits of the birds. getting in the best position and wait.

    good luck!!
