    Default Landing snowy owl

Shot yesterday morning about 7:00. The owl was on a tree - flew (unfortunately in the wrong direction), but came back and landed in another tree. It sat there for 10 minutes before taking off for the marsh.

    Allan:

    Excellent exposure,nice light,neutral background,nice composition.

Look back helps as the bird is angled away just a bit.

You did well to freeze motion with this shutter speed. I would have been tempted to push the ISO up to 800 or so, to get some more flexibility. In a light scene like this, the D300 could easily handle ISO 800 without noise issues.

Thanks so much for sharing. Your snowie season must be just about done.

Stunning composition and I like the pose and fluffed feathers in this image as well as the great eye contact. The perch is a real plus in this capture. Many thanks for sharing.

Great pose and expression, and the perch really helps. Look back excellent. I see a bunch of burnt pixels, probably from misuse of curves and not in the original.

Cool pose and lookback. I might have gone to ISO 400 for higher shutter speed. I agree regarding some hot parts in the plumage. It should be easy to recover.

I actually think this came out well considering the low shutter speed. I shoot auto iso and at this early hour set the ss at 1/200 when the bird was perched on the tree. It flew off away from me and I thought it was gone - I was not expecting flight shots so I made no change to my ss. Then it flew back - was behind trees till the last moment so I did not take any flight shots - just got this landing.
Will work on recovering what I can in the hot spots.
