Getting an early jump on the Spring Eider activity here on the Maine coast. More Eiders than I have seen in the past. At Pine Point a guy counted 730 in the harbor. 1Dmk3 on 500 f4at iso400, f6.3, 1/1600, AIservo, manual exposure. Bob
On my monitor, the whites are just on the edge, esp. on far wing and cheek.
To my eye the head and eye aren't critically sharp. I thought there might be a sharpening halo behind the head, but perhaps it is just the background mimic the halo effect.
Thanks for sharing, and I hope you get the chance for some more of these fun ducks.
Looks like you're going to get lots of opportunities to photograph these beauties. Eye contact is great, but the light angle is less than ideal. Sharpness looks good on my monitor. Wing position could be stronger. Also I'd remove some canvas at the bottom of the frame.
I am inland and this is not one I usually see.
Thank you for sharing it.
You have got some good critique already and I have not much to add other then in regards to the 'hot white' I think that some of them could be recovered with the image in ACR or like applications.
Hi Bob. I don't think that I've seen many images of Eiders in flight so thanks for sharing. It makes me wish that I was still liiving on the Bay of Fundy.
The others have offered some good suggestions. Were you using your BushHawk?
Stephen, No on the BushHawk, got out of the habit due to lots of canoe work last year but am about to get it going for these Eiders - They should be in this breeding mode for a month or more so here is hoping for some more and better! Here is a link to a female in flight from last year. Thanks, Bob http://bob-malbon-photo.smugmug.com/...61_AWjZa-O.jpg
All in all the pose is nice but I feel it could use a little toning down of whites and a bit more sharpening. :) Thanks for posting this beaitful duck.
