    Default BCNH Fishing Behavior

I was fortunate to get many full frame images of this BCNH this morning,
a rarity around here. Anyway, it was interesting to watch him fish.
He would dip his bill into the water and open and close it many times.
Then all of a sudden he would have a small fish....did it over and over.

Very interesting, makes you wonder how he can see/sense fish in this kind of environment. Great image, BTW. I might clone out the branch touching the lower back part of the body.

    Dave:

I wonder if the bill movement creates sound waves in the water that the small fish interpret as food items, a bug, etc. I agree with Axel, I am not sure how he would see them with all the duck weed. Perhaps he feels them, like a fisherman feels a bite?

I agree with Axel about the branches. I certainly would consider posting it on the big board.

Will be curious is John or someone else knows the facts about this fishing technique.

This is a cool behavior image. I also agree about the rear branches. I bet they itch! LOL!
