    Default Common Nighthawk

This is one bird that I don't think head angle for proper eye contact matters much on as I have a bunch of image of them and as they are nocturnal those images for the most part are of them sleeping. I have them sleeping on the fence, sleeping in the trees but sleeping. Once in a great while I will capture one with eyes open but opened sleepily.

I really like the warm colors and the clean bg!

I like the earthy colours in this Kim, together with the sleepy eye. What a perfect OOF BG too. Comp wise, I would maybe move him down a bit, but still a great image.

    Kim:

Lovely colors in bird and background, even the perch color harmonizes. I agree with Stuart about the crop, as the post is pretty dominating in the image as posted. This angle does show off his impressive primaries!

Nice that the eye is a bit open, really gives that 'sleepy' mood to it.

Lovely colors and light. As mentioned, the sleepy eye adds to it. Wish you'd had taken a few steps to the right if you could for a better head and body angle.

Great details and BG. I could see this as a pano crop and agree with Fabs regarding moving to your right for a better head angle.

Thank you all for looking, comments and critique.

There were some obstacles to approaching a different direction (barb-wire fences). It seemed there was no way the bird was going to let me go more to the right, I had tried that on two separate occasions on days prior to getting this image and both times it flushed so on this day I did not try to go further.

I tried the crop I think was suggested. The original is on a DVD somewhere so I would have to search for it. I just added a bit of canvas (right and top) and took some from the bottom here. It looks to me like the crop was a good suggestion. Thanks.

Like the new crop Kim! Has a much better harmony about it.
Lovely detail on the bird with super BG! Agree on a better head angle here.
