    Default Cheetah Cub Looks back

Believe it or not it was looking at a male Lion with two lionesses around 100 meters below!

Taken in Deception Valley, Central Kalahari Game Reserve, Botswana 4th March 2009

    EOS 1D MkIII
    500mm F4 hand-held

    F6.3, 1/2000, ISO 800, EV+1/3rd

The "lumps" in the background are Mum and another cub, should they be removed?

I think it could gp either way. If you do, crop out the sky and add to the bottom. You made out here Ken! Love the look back and those eyes.

Beautiful looking animal Ken. The habitat accentuates the Cheetah well. I agree with Grady on cropping out the blue sky as that really concentrates the look of the cat. Removing the others in the BG would remove tht one distraction that causes someone to think about what it is.

Very nice look back, but he should have been positioned in the right of the frame. Taking a few steps to your left would have accomplished this, plus avoided the merging with the one in the bg. I know this is not always possible, though.

Nice color, sharpness, pose, and habitat. Another vote for cropping out the sky. The BG animals, I could go either way on removing or not but with them and the sky gone, focus is totally on the cheetah and his concerned look back. Nice image.

I feel I would crop out the sky and make it more of a pano. Lovely looking beast. :) I am not sure if a few saturation points up would be good or not?

Something more like this perhaps Ken?
Cropped sky out, canvas added LHS, Mum & cubs removed with a touch of saturation added.
    Great "lookback" nontheless.

    Cheers

Marc you beat me to it!

I have had a very frustrating day trying to sort out why I could not make Quick Mask work. Thanks to the kind help of others on this forum I have no managed to produce a revised version taking into account the above advice.

    Marc,

Thanks for that, my version was completed before yours, I actually think I added too much canvas!
