I though this boat looked nice but felt like the shot needed to be just the boat and the water, nothing else. What do you think?

I think you're exactly right. I like it very much. Pleasing composition.

Hi JB, I have many shots like that and find that simpler very often can be best and most powerful.

This is classic. Well seen. Well captured. Thanks for posting it.

    Default Simple Boat

I also love it in its simplicity, but also that the boat is not centered vertically. Gives it somewhere to go. Centered would IMHO lend the shot to be more of a like-all-the-others stock look. Great shot

Really nice comp and mood to this. I might pop the colors a touch and even raise exposure a hair. I threw it in cs3 and did auto levels just to see, this is what I got. YOu also need to work on the cloning on the right of the boat. Otherwise, wonderful image.

Simplicity at its best. I like the colors in the repost.

Can definitely see the difference in Paul's repost JB. I have been posting in the mornings from a laptop and not really seeing the tonal quality of the images. I like what Paul did and would have suggested that myself.

    Hey JB,
Sweet!.....the simplicity is very effective. A classic! I actually like both versions....as darker original.....appeals to me......but sometimes...the softer re-post.....works too. A winner either way!

JB, I love the simplicity and I also like the re-post better. Do you have you EXIF info as well? Just curious to see it. Thx.

Bryan, the details are Canon 20d, f8, ISO 800, 1/400. These are not my ideal choices, just where the camera was set. I think ISO 100 and a corresponding slower shutter speed might have been better, but since I was handholding, there might have been some shake. Didn't expect much, only took a couple of images, then when I got home this turned out to be one of my favorites from the outing. Isn't that how it always happens? Hope this helps.

Thanks JB, that does help. Just curious. I really like the image. For me, it's a wall-hanger! :)

I like the mood of the image as presented along with the composition. Maybe a tad more contrast and a bit of cleanup. It looks like it was captured during the "magic hour" that seems to be the craze and the auto levels just turned it into a 12 noon daylight shot.
