I have always wanted to photograph a bird of prey with this wing position. Finally had my opportunity on a recent shoot with some fellow photographers. Photographed with a Canon 40D and 100-400L IS lens handheld. Ai-Servo mode, f/8, 1/1600 at ISO 200. Almost full-frame image.

Great banking pose and light. I would consider a vertical crop.

Well captured Wilson - a beautiful composition!! I like this format giving room in front of bird to move into. Just love those patterns in the plumage.

Thanks Alfred, Fabs, Judy, John, Dave, William and Axel for the kind words. Alfred, if you ever make it up here for one of our winters I'll definitely show you a great place to photograph these Snowy Owls. But somehow I have a feeling it will be hard to leave such a warm place for our cold temps.

Fantastic image. Beautifully framed but would be interested to see it in a verticle frame as suggested
