Taken at Savegre in CR about 1 hour before sunset. Patiently followed the little fellow for 20 minutes until he landed with a clean BG. In PS ran Topaz Denoise , slight curves adjustment and sharpened for web.

Undecided as to whether to lighten BG - thanks for looking

Gorgeous colors and metal-like shining. The sharpness is nice however there is a strong sharpening halo around the bill. I would like to see a bit more room on the top and a slight crop from the right. :)

Beautiful bird, nice colors and head turn. BG looks good and I like the way the leafy perch leads you up to the bird.

Great bird, head angle, perch and BG. I would sharpen less and run NR on the BG. There is a little bit of 'steel eye' underneath the catchlight that I would remove/tone down. Maybe a little bit more room top and bottom?

    Peter:

I took the liberty of toning down the leaf, and reduced the contrast a bit in the overall image. I found the leaf to be to bright and reflective, like it needed a polarizer. See what you think.:). I had to compress the resultant jpeg a bit, so a bit of loss of detail compared with the original.

Wonderful iridescence, pose and I like the toned down leaf in the repost - although it still got the steel-eye.

    Simon:

My only goal was to work on the leaf, I will leave it to others to tackle the eye!

Thanks for the comments and suggestions
I think the sharpening halo is the flash refelecting from pollen on his bill as i didn't apply a sharpening layer.
Missed the steely/funky eye. I do like the repost better with the toned down leaf . I'll try out the various cropping suggestions.
Axel - i thought i ran enough NR in Topaz Denoise. The original had a lot of more noise as one would expect from 50D. Where do you still see the excessive noise?
    Thanks again

Nice capture Peter. Your patience was rewarded. I do like the toned down leave as it allows the bird centre stage. I saw many hummingbirds in Costa Rica last month but never on such a clean perch.

    Hi Peter -

Lovely pose and good head angle. I like the background as it is. The toned down leaf and reduced contrast in the repost looks good, and I would add a little room on top. Very nice capture of a beautiful hummingbird.

    Good capture.

Randy did well to improve leaf.

The steel eye is there but a bit of work with small soft healing bruch fixed it quickly.

Amazing colours captured on the HB, and a lovely pose too. The toned down leaf looks great, and all I would do here is move him to the right a bit. Well captured Peter.
