The grebes are in breeding plumage right now, and it's a real thrill to find one that's willing to hang around for photos - this one was taken at Discovery Park in Seattle today, and it really feels like spring is finally on it's way

Nice and sharp. The water looks great as does that red eye. I would give it a little CCW rotation and perhaps crop a bit off the top. :)

Great angle and light. I agree regarding CCW rotation and would put the bird further to the left in the frame to give him more room 'to swim into' and also a slight crop off top and bottom. A bit more head turn toward you would have made it even better.

    George -

    Good capture here.

The only nit I have is a red cast between the eye and bill along side the head. Truefully I can not remember if the bird developes that red there but...
I think I would try a bit of desaturation in that area (sponge desaturate set mild) and then possible a bit of light Burn there afterward. Just a thought.

Lovely light and pretty water bg. Good exposure control and sharp detail. The bird is too centered in the frame, and needs a little ccw rotation as mentioned. Do wish for a tad more head turn toward you.

Hi Kim, you had me thinking there - I had a look at a few guides, and there is a red wash between the eye and bill on the horned grebe. It's something I hadn't really noticed before so thanks for making me look!

    Hi George and thanks.

Now I know and if it is there then it should be imaged. ;-)

I checked out some other images of the bird and I think that red streak will darken more yet as it goes full blown breeding plumage.

Lovely low angle of capture here George. CCW covered, and comp wise, I agree with Axel to take off top and bottom. Still, well captured.

Thanks for the great feedback - I did the CCW rotation and cropped off top and bottom as many had suggested. I think it looks better
