The original image was spoiled by a dark blue shadow falling over the back of the bird. I was able to lighten it but couldn't get rid of the blue cast. Then I saw an article in the latest issue of Outdoor Photographer by Tony Kuyper about "power cloning" and I remembered this image. So I tried it and this is the result I managed to get.
Comments and suggestions appreciated. (I know, use fill-flash, but I was too stupid to bring my flash with me that day.)
Hi Kent - Perch compliments the bird nicely - exposure looks good and head anlge is close - Bg is good and also compliments your subject nicely.
Looks just a tad soft on my screen - could use a tad more sharpening ? Cloning work looks good - will have to seek out the article.
keep them coming :)
Hi Kent,
Agree with Mr. Peters assessment...I would like to see the area around the eye a tad lighter, and selective sharpen the eye...good show...looking forward to more...
Thanks for the suggestions. I have attempted to implement them: lighteened around the eye, sharpened the eye, and sharpened the whole image a bit more. Please let me know if I've improved it. I used to over sharpen, and now I'm more conservative in sharpening, especially for images viewed on the web.
I think you're right! The space at the top is doing nothing for the image. Why didn't I see that?! So much to learn, and once learned, I've gotta actually apply it! Thanks. This web site is the best. I think I've said that before... maybe 100 times!
Agree with Gus on lightening and sharpening the eye area. And taking some off the top too. Very lovely capture, might go back in with the eraser and get rid of the "fog" on the branch.
