    Default The Yawn

Another Snowy Owl that I photographed a few days ago. This is a female who probably had a long night and a big breakfast. The right talon is quite bloody.

    Axel:

I like the natural history aspect here. They are great looking birds.
Nice technicals, of course. I tried just a small crop from the top, and at least for me, it seemed to help the foilage balance the bird a bit more, but really just a matter of taste. I still consider myself to be a CC sufferer.

    Cheers

The one blade of grass in front of the owl is a teeny-tiny nit for me. But hey, I'll take that shot any day of the week.

A cool pose, Axel, and the bloody foot adds interest here. I also note some blood on the throat area as well. Must have been a good meal. :) I think the cropping suggestions above are just a matter of taste. It works fine for me as presented.

Very nice image that works for me as posted. Like the pose and open beak, as well as the bloody foot, that makes it more interesting.

Axel, Very nice yawn-the mouth open along with the bloody talon and neck really tells it's own story-Well done! The crop looks fine could take a sliver off the top-but not much.Did you watch her feed?

Thanks, Denise! No, I didn't see her feed, this is the bird that let the squirrel walk by.

Very nice you did very well.

I enjoyed seeing this one and she looks very content.
Are the owls down to your state or are you up North?

I like it as you presented it. I think I would try clipping a few black points, just 5 or so in a Levels Adjustment Layer just to see if it would change the contrast for the better.

Thanks for the suggestions, Kim! I photographed both owls on Long Island. It's quite surprising that they were still around.

I like how the owl is framed under the leaning branch. Great timing to capture the open beak, and would have been interesting to have seen what she ate. Great image Axel.
