    Default Superb Fairy-wren singing

I almost caught it with the bill fully open. I sat at the edge of a swamp waiting for them to land nearby, as they were quite regular on a section of dry stems. So she landed about six meters in front of me and sang away. I cropped this from a horizontal image. Full height though. No BG manipulation. Only thing I cloned a little stick from the left of the stem base, and it only just crept into the frame.

    30D, 300mm f/4L IS USM + 1.4x, ISO400, f/5.6, 1/1000th, 430EX and BB, tripod

    Hope you like it.

Great bird, and especially good composition.
Agree with cropping suggestion, really like the
    bird perch line-up.
Can you tell us why the "Superb" in the name?
Is it because of the song?

    Cheers, Ilija

THanks for the comments and suggestions. I will revisit in the morning again, before I go to work. :)

    Ilija,

The superb comes from the male's gorgeous colors, much electric blue in the plumage. See this picture of a male here. And here is a link to the call.

    Well composed and executed Akos,
I like the pose with the sharp details, good color rendition, good head angle and good eye contact...The diagonal perch compliments your subject along with the light pastel background...good show...

WE do have some wonderful species that is true. But they are very hard to get close to. :( But we try.

Hi Akos - nice job - like the pose, good HA and BG is great. I find that if you find a place were these guys frequent and lie flat on the ground - they will soon ignore you and go on about their business - give it a try - works in my location :)

Thanks everyone for the encouraging comments. :) Here is a slightly more cropped version, perhaps as Al may like it. I also selected the majority of her body with a QM and gave it another round of sharpening,
