This isn't a particularly stunning image, but it is a stunning bird - a male Bee hummingbird, the smallest bird in the world, and the size of a large bee. It's endemic to Cuba, and even there only found in limited locations. Therefore I thought people might find it of interest. I tried to make the background as unobtrusive as I could, but I'm not sure if it works. At Maria la Gorda, western Cuba, Feb.

Hi Richard,
This is a wonderful record shot. Did you crop a lot? Would you be OK to post the original? Just curious to see about the crop that's all. I love the colors on this little critter. So cute too. I bet it's tiny. :)
The area behind the bird does look strange, even if you have some branches will be an excellent image. It is very well exposed and sharp with the bird in a fine pose !!!
Hi Richard,
I like the capture...there is something funky going on to the left side of the frame, also need to run a pass of noise reduction in the background...
It is indeed a huge crop- here is the unedited jpeg extract from the original Raw file, without any cropping, color/ levels modification, noise reduction etc. I would love it if someone can improve significantly on my effort, and tell me how they achieved it, of possible - particularly removing the bright chunks of background between the leaves (I think they're out of focus white flowers).
