    Default Eagle in Spring

This is a bald eagle that I shot at Blackwater National Wildlife Refuge in Maryland. I saw it in a tree only about 100 feet away. I was in my car, so I leaned out of the window and hand-held my D300 with the 600 mm lens. I wasn't sure it would come out crisp, but I think it worked well. Comments and Criticisms welcome.

    D300, 600 mm lens, f 5.6, shutter speed 1/4000, ISO 400, no flash

    Chris -
Very nice image here. Well done.

I would have liked to see it just a bit larger.

Nice but a little small as posted. You can do up to 1,024 pixels wide! Or 800 pixels high. It would look nice bigger. perhaps another round of sharpening would enhance your image. Light seems a little strong. :) Thanks for sharing.

Looks much better posted larger Chris. Sharpness looks good. Light does seem a bit harsh. Also, there appears to be some clone work to the branch near your copyright.

    Chris -
You should be proud as you nailed it!

In CS4 look at histogram set to luminosity (see all color channels) and you can see very few true whites. This is a suggestion (there are other techniques) for subtle change-

Go to Adj. Layer Pallet chose Levels>Clip 'only 10 form light side'.
Flatten (or combine all to new layer).
Final Sharpening 400/0.2/0 - Fade to luminosity
    Call it good

I enjoyed seeing this and the larger view is better for my old eyes.
    Well done!

Your larger version has worked out nicely. Lovely pose, and these are really wonderful specimans. Great capture.
